SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS ----------------------- This tool can be used only in Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Advanced Server, Windows 2000 Datacenter Server and Windows NT Server 4.0 with Service Pack 3 or higher. At least 2 MB of space must be available and the DHCP Service must be installed and properly configured. ------------ 2. OVERVIEW ------------ You can use DHCP Database Export Import Tool 1.0 to export a DHCP database and server configuration from one Windows NT Server 4.0 or Windows 2000 Server for import into a destination Windows 2000 DHCP server. You can export your entire DHCP database or you can select specific scopes to export, a feature that allows you to move some, but not all, of your scopes to another DHCP server. You can select specific scopes during export. During export or import, the entire DHCP database and configuration is exported or imported except for the following: -- DHCP database path -- DHCP database backup path -- Audit log path -- Detect Conflict Retry settings -- Multicast scopes -- BOOTP tables ------------------------------------ 3. PROCEDURES AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT ------------------------------------ 3.1 Exporting DHCP database and configuration of local service to a file -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When exporting all scopes: To ensure that the DHCP server does not assign IP address leases to client computers after export of the DHCP database and configuration, stop the DHCP service on the source server. For more information, see Windows NT 4.0 Server or Windows 2000 Server online Help. When exporting some, but not all, scopes: You can export some scopes without stopping the DHCP service. During the export procedure you can select specific scopes for export. You can also disable the selected scopes on the local computer before export, thereby preventing the DHCP server from allocating IP addresses from these scopes to clients after export. >>>To export a DHCP database from a Windows NT 4.0 Server or a Windows 2000 Server: 1. In Windows Explorer, locate the folder where you installed Dhcpexim.exe. Double-click Dhcpexim.exe. 2. Click Export Configuration Of Local Service To A File, and then click OK. 3. KNOWN ISSUES ---------------- -- The tool does not display high-bit characters correctly. -- On a Windows 2000 Datacenter DHCP server, if the SwitchedNetworkFlag registry setting is first exported and then imported to a destination server, the DHCP console shows the imported scope as deactivated (SwitchedNetworkFlag causes the Datacenter server to assign its own IP address as the default gateway using DHCP Option 003 - router). On the DHCP console Action menu, the command to activate the scope is not available. To activate the scope, do the following: on the Action menu, click Deactivate. The option to activate the scope will become available. On the Action menu, click Activate. -- Reserved IP DNS settings are not exported correctly. -- Use of the tool may alter permissions on the directory: systemroot\System32\Dhcp\ -------------------------------------------------------------------
