Here are some ways in which you can quickly and easily receive information from
Microsoft Knowledge Base articles.
-
You can get information from the Microsoft Support Site by formatting various correct URLs.
For Q102873 the URLs could be:
-
Using this VBScript Kburl.vbs, the
formatting will be done automatically for you after you enter a KB Article number like Q102873.
For the "preview" version use Kburlpr.vbs.
Note: To avoid accidental running of the script, the scripts on this web server
are stored as *.vb_ file. Clicking on the link will bring up the script in the browser.
From there you can save it for later use, simply by selecting All text in the browser window and
copy/pasting it into your own newly created .vbs script file.
-
Alternatively, and probably the quickest way is to use your browser and get to the article
of interest directly by entering the following in the address line of IE 5.5:
mskb 102873 or mskb Q102873
(See Add or modify Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE)
command shortcuts to see how to re-enable this functionality for IE 6.0)
Note: If you are not directly taken to the requested article, check out
this description of
the changes Microsoft introduced into IE that could cause this and how to fix it.
Unfortunately this type of ’shortcut command’ per default only worked in IE 5.5.
Check out
Add or modify Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) command shortcuts
to learn how to re-enable this IE shortcut command and others.
-
Use Google. Just enter the info you are looking for. Add Support.Microsoft at the end.
Google seems to do a pretty good job at finding *relevant* Q doc’s from Microsoft’s site.
eg.: q102873 support.microsoft

If you are like me and have tons of others things to do as well, you just might like to keep informed
and be notified if and when new Microsoft Knowledge Base articles are published on their site.
Here is a free service that does just that. Check it out.
