Tip 59: The ultimate Windows XP configuration tool

One of the most full featured Windows XP configuration tools available is hidden right there in your system, and most people don’t even know it exists!.

It’s called the Local Group Policy Editor, or gpedit for short.

To use this editor Select Start, Run and type: gpedit.msc

After you hit ENTER, you’ll be greeted by gpedit, which lets you modify virtually every feature in Windows XP without having to resort to regedit.

Dig around and enjoy!

Alternatively you could create your own Management Console for it and add it to your set of Administrative Tools. To create the Management Console:

  • Click Start, Run and type mmc -->ENTER
  • From the console that is started, click File and choose Add/Remove Snap-in
  • Click Add and from the "Add Standalone Snap-in" list presented select Group Policy and click Add again
  • Click Finish
  • Click Close
  • Click OK
  • From the File menu, choose "Save As" and name the file: Group Policy Editor

You now have this wonderful tool available in your "Administrative Tools" section.
