Tip 123: No Name and Picture on the Start Menu
You are basically happy with the Windows XP Start Menu as such, but you really do not care for the picture and logged on user name to be displayed on top?

Here are some steps to remove those 'space-consuming' items.

Open Windows Explorer and go to:
Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\User Account Pictures.

Find the <name>.bmp file that is associated with your user account and rename it to eg. <name>-OLD.bmp

Next, find the folder named

Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\User Account Pictures\Default Pictures and rename that one too, like Default Pictures-OLD.

As a final step:

  1. Start a registry editor (e.g., regedit.exe).
  2. Navigate to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer registry subkey.
  3. Double-click "NoUserNameInStartMenu" set it to 1, then click OK.

The Start Menu will no longer display the User name and picture.
